Deadstep

My latest piece titled Deadstep is now available! I went kind of crazy with this one and not only did I mash two completely random things together (Dubstep and Day of the Dead) but I also went extremely out of my comfort zone and stayed away from some of my design crutches. This piece is completely void of a lot of my traditional Photoshop techniques that are prevalent in most of my work.

One thing that did make a comeback is the skull I used for this piece. It made it's debut back in 2001 for Cold iCE Cold, as seen here. Bringing this guy back into my newer work was a blast.

Another thing I did was put together a dubstep mix to go along with this release, you can check it out over at 8tracks.

The Storm

I very rarely take part in collaborations, let alone a 3 person one! The Storm started off as a piece I was creating for inclusion in the latest Depthcore chapter. I never got around to finishing it though. Parker Gibson approached me about doing a collaboration together and I told him I had a piece that I wanted to finish and if he wanted he could take a stab at it. So he did, along with bringing on board Tony Rivera. They both brought my original vision full circle. I was completely blown away at the final product.

It was an absolute pleasure to work with both of these artists!

deviantART 10th Anniversary

On August 7th, 2010, I was asked to put on a 45 minute Photoshop session on how I create my artwork for the deviantART 10th anniversary. deviantART is an art community I have been a part of for 10 years.

Heading out to LA!

We arrived at the House of Blues just around noon.

We had to hang outside for a little while before we decided to just let ourselves in.

Things were still being setup when we got inside.

This is the room where I put on my Photoshop session.

My good friend David and I trying to figure out their projector, the House of Blues only had VGA out and our laptop did not have VGA in, so we opted to use the wireless feature of the projector, which was worked really well.

This is me wondering what the hell I am going to make/say once the clock hits 4pm.

I decided to warm up by creating my version of an abstract dinosaur. This is Abstractosaurus.

So I start, and the audience is captivated.

The room was packed!

This was about when I was ending the session. I mostly just created and talked very rarely. I really wanted to finish something in my 45 minute timeslot, but I had only begun to scratch the surface of what I was going to create.

Angelo Sotira stopped by later in the night while I was still working. We had some good laughs. I'm being told I was pretty wasted in this picture, I don't believe it.

After about 4 hours of work this is where I was with my creation. Still so far from what I would end up with.

This is me getting a personal demonstration of ArtRage from Uwe Maurer of Ambient Design, he was an awesome guy, and even bought me a beer.

Ryane (my fiance) and Lee (another good friend) hang out while Uwe's co-worker snaps a photo of us.

Once everyone leaves I dive right back into my work, I think I look like this the whole time I create. It's like I am trying to solve a really hard puzzle.

A very close to final look of what I created after about 8 hours of work.

The ride home, gotta love LA traffic at midnight...

Treason!

Another new piece! This was created live at the recent deviantART 10th Birthday Bash at the House of Blues in Hollywood. I put on a 45 minute session which was basically the beginning of this work. You can see a 25 minute video here. I spent another 5 hours or so after my session working on it, then another hour at home adding the finishing touches.

Anchor!

DeviantArt is having their 10th Anniversary Birthday Bash at the House of Blues in Los Angeles on Saturday, August 7th. I will be putting on a 45 minute Photoshop session about how I create my artwork. I am going to be creating something original in front of the audience!

I have never created something on the fly in front of anyone, let alone an audience, this is really going to be a very unique event.

The show kicks off at 2:30pm and my session begin at 4pm. The party ends around midnight. Tickets are about $20.

Horizon

Horizon is officially released! This piece is a collaboration between myself and amazing photographer Ryan Strong. Please check out his work because he is a phenomenal photographer.

Horizon was created over the course of about a month on and off. It sets a new record for my largest Photoshop file at around 750mb. The large file size comes from working with very high resolution photos which makes for some amazing prints.

Grab the wallpaper in standard and widescreen resolutions from the 2010 Wallpapers.

Also, for those of you with iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches, I am working on a better way to include them in the site along with putting together a new photography pack of wallpapers. With that will come a special iPhone 4 pack that supports the new devices Retina Display. Hopefully I will have those ready in the coming weeks.

Well hello 2009. Didn't I say not too long ago I was going to update this more frequently? Man, I suck. Truth is, I have been insanely busy looking for a house to buy. The market has finally settled down enough and is in an affordable range for me and my fiance. We are currently in escrow and if all goes well, we close on April 10th.

Oh yeah, I uploaded a new wallpaper titled Hornet. This is probably my largest piece to date clocking in at 60x40" at 300 dpi, of course you only get the wallpaper resolution. Enjoy!

Welcome To 2009

I wish I could say I have a new wallpaper uploaded (actually I do but it's just a color version of CLCKWRK) but November/December was quite possibly the busiest time of my life. Between seeing all my family around Christmas time and working on my work's Christmas party, I just had no time to create art.

I did however manage to put some stuff together for ESPN The Magazine, unfortunately they did not print what I created for them. I will be putting it in my portfolio shortly for you all to see.

Also if you are in the United States check out the latest issue of Advanced Photoshop Magazine (issue #50) I have a tip featured in their "Top 50 Photoshop Tips." Barnes & Noble and Borders stocks the magazine. For those of you outside of the states check out issue #51 which has a 2 page spread of my work.

Metropolis

METROPOLIS is quite possibly one of my most ambitious pieces of art to date. The thing that makes this particular work stand out in my mind is because I knew very little about the Fritz Lang movie, yet somehow managed to work so many prominent elements from it into my piece without any knowledge of them.

After completing METROPOLIS I immediately added the movie to my Netflix queue so I wouldn't feel like an idiot for releasing something that shares the title of a very famous film. I am glad I did, while it was quite difficult to follow the movie at certain parts (that's what friends are for!) I did manage to grasp the basics and really enjoyed viewing this amazing work of art. To think it was made in 1927 just boggles my mind. Do yourself a favor and check it out if you have 2 hours to spare!

Clckwrk/depthCORE/Portfolio

There is a lot to post about tonight! First and foremost is my latest wallpaper titled CLCKWRK, just head over here to download your specific resolution.

Clckwrk is a completely black & white piece that was created for the latest depthCORE release, which is titled "NOIR." The theme was amazing to work around and ended up inspiring a lot with it's very restrictive color palette, or should I say, lack of? Be sure to head over to the site and check out the 100+ pack release that has a ton of amazing artwork in it.

And finally I have updated my portfolio with a new piece. It is a painting that was done about a month ago as a wedding gift for a friend and is my largest painting to date.

Stone Brewery's Bitter Chocolate Oatmeal Stout is pretty damn bitter, I don't recommend it if you dont like bitter beer or super dark chocolate, ick. Franziskaner Hefe-Weisse on the other hand is amazingly brilliant.

Overture/Portfolio Addition

Another wallpaper! This is the most productive I have been in a while. Overture is a simplistic piece made out of seahorses. Download it from the gallery.

I have also added a new flyer to my portfolio. It was created about a month ago for my dad's car club. It was heavily inspired by Speed Racer, which I actually enjoyed a lot despite crappy reviews and bad press.

New Wallpaper/Naature Clothing

First off, that wallpaper I mentioned 3 weeks ago is finally up. It's actually been up since last week. Feather is a very soft and streamlined wallpaper, enjoy! Check it out.

For those who don't know, I run a t-shirt company on the side with my good friend Jason. We design (most of them) and silk screen all the shirts ourselves. We have been doing this since 2005 and just this past Friday we released our third batch of shirts that consists of four designs. I have a new wallpaper titled "Feather" that is ready go online but have not got around to uploading it, expect that in a day or so.

I have been busy getting the next batch of Naature shirts ready to sell. Jason came out on Friday and helped me print all 200 of them. We had a launch party on Saturday that ran from 9pm to 5am! We have four new shirts that we are planning on getting online the first week of June. Two of the designs are done by yours truly. I will post more details once they are online.

After I figure out a way to take nice photos of my paintings I will be offering them up for sale. If you want to purchase one hit me up and I will put your name on it.

endeffect 2008 - OH, HAI

I would like to welcome everyone to the new look of EndEffect. It has been quite some time since EndEffect saw a facelift of this size. The redesign of the site started just over a year ago. But due to a lot of various factors, never saw the light of day until now.

A lot of very tedious work went into some behind-the-scenes stuff that you might not see at first glance. The absolute biggest being a complete overhaul of all of my original jpg files. Through the years we have always carried over the original jpg files of the wallpapers, some of these jpg's date all the way back to 1999. I knew that going into this new design I didn't just want a facelift for the site, I wanted all of the content to be fresh. I have spent countless hours and weeks re-rendering, remastering, and re-saving all of the wallpapers from their original Bryce and Photoshop source files. A few of these wallpapers have received a heavy amount of modifications that have drastically improved the quality. These wallpapers have a (rm) after their name, meaning "remastered."

All my wallpapers are now divided by creation year. This is something that I never thought about but was brought up by my friend David who actually programmed the site. Browsing through my collection should be a lot easier now. Regardless of the number, each year will load all corresponding wallpapers on that page. No more skipping through tons of pages to find what you are looking for, just click the year and scroll down.

One of my favorite new additions to EndEffect is the new lightbox script we are running. It looks really slick and cleans up the wallpaper listing quite a bit because it houses all of the download links for the various wallpaper sizes.

Speaking of wallpaper sizes... I have been asked countless times about widescreen wallpapers, they are finally here! A lot of those weeks I spent re-rendering, remastering and re-saving had to do with the fact that I was reformatting nearly every wallpaper into a widescreen aspect ratio as well. Just about every single wallpaper is now available in widescreen all the way up to 1920x1200.

As you browse the wallpapers you will notice some of them have a "Print Available" link underneath the title. These wallpapers are available to purchase as prints, mousepads, coasters, magnets, and some even as coffee mugs. These are processed through the amazing prints service of deviantART. These prints are very high quality and look simply outstanding.

Another thing that I have long wanted to incorporate into EndEffect is some of the contract work that I do/have done. A Portfolio section has been added that showcases some hand picked pieces I have been contracted to do, including a logo I did way back in 1999 just as I was starting to get deep into graphic design.

The last part I want to mention that I just had to include because I personally use them every day of my life, is an RSS Feed. Subscribe to it and you will get all of my blog entries that will include wallpaper releases and other random stuff I might write about. The icon will be permanently affixed to the bottom right portion of this page.

Well that is about it, I hope everyone enjoys the new EndEffect; the new facelift, the fresh wallpapers, and my new blog. Very big thanks go out to David Mernin and Jason Krieger, without them EndEffect would not be what it is today. I thank them from the bottom of my heart for their continued support and hard work that has kept EndEffect stable and functioning for all these years.
